Documentaries are one of the best way to learn about our world. Information available on Climate Change has been brought to big screens and small screens more often for the past ten years. Are you up for a Netflix session to learn about Climate Science?

Movies or Videos sites are getting more common these days with Netflix providing a common solution for many with their streaming services. Eventhough they mainly serves as an avenue for entertainment, these streaming sites host many films that communicate cold hard science to the public, in the form of documentary.


Let's see what are the choices and where can we watch those movies legally!

1) An Inconvenient Truth (2006): Available on Netflix - 118 mins

This film features the former United State's Vice President Al Gore's campaign to educate the people about global warming. The documentary shares on a slide show that, by Gore's own estimate, he has presented over 1,000 times to audiences worldwide. The film and a book with the same name has given birth to a project call The Climate Reality Project to continue the climate science education.


2) David Attenborough: A life on Our Planet (2020): Available on Netflix - 114 mins

David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet is a 2020 British documentary film narrated by David Attenborough. The film acts as a "witness statement", through which Attenborough shares first-hand his concern for the current state of the planet due to humanity's impact on nature and his hopes for the future.


3) Kiss the Ground (2020): Available on Netflix - 84 mins

Kiss the Ground is a full-length documentary narrated by Woody Harrelson that sheds light on an “new, old approach” to farming called “regenerative agriculture” that has the potential to balance our climate, replenish our vast water supplies, and feed the world.


4) Chasing Coral (2017): Available on Netflix - 93 mins

If you don't know what coral bleaching actually means, what it looks like, and why it's an undeniable indicator of climate change, Netflix’s Chasing Coral will leave you in no doubt. (It's when corals, stressed by temperatures changes, expel algae that live within their tissues, causing them to turn white.


5) Before the Flood (2016): Available on Disney+ - 93 mins

Before the Flood features Leonardo DiCaprio on a journey as a United Nations Messenger of Peace, traveling to five continents and the Arctic to witness climate change firsthand. He goes on expeditions with scientists uncovering the reality of climate change and meets with political leaders fighting against inaction.
